IE is using up my memory

I am running IE6 with WIN XP Sp2.
IEXPLORE.EXE keeps running in memory after the window is closed. This has
the cumulative effect of using up my memory.

At present I have 5 instances if IEXPLORE.EXE running, although I have no
instances of IE open. (I have avoided the problem by using Mozilla Firefox).

Any ideas?

You are probably infested with malware.
