What is it about Microsoft? I would like to use Mozilla as my default
browser. Mozilla, like any other alternative browser has its icons for,
say, html, url, etc.

But Microsoft just will not allow those icons to be changed... why?

Hi Michael :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Tools>Internet Options>Programs tab
Toward the bottom of the dialog box, UNcheck the box next to
Internet should check to see whether it is the default browser
Then close out of IE, reopen. If is asks if you want it to be your default
browser, click Noo and close out.

Restart Mozilla, if it asks if you want it to be your default borwser, click
yes (or OK)
It should now be set as your default browser all the time.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Jan, thanks for the info, but unfortunately, no changes...

More details:

Say, I save a web page in Mozilla... it creates a .html page with
corresponding directory for related elements of the page...

When IE is default, the icon for .html pages is the basic, boring, IE
icon...

When Mozilla is default, the .html icon reverts to the first icon in the
shell32 file...

I'm pretty sure MS has put so many entries into the regedit file to make the
icons persistent just for branding purposes...

For me, it has the opposite effect.

Hmmm....that's a new one on me...never met one like that. Hopefully,
someone else here has had an encounter with that and will be able to give
you some better info to resolve the problem.

Sorry I could not be of more help. :-)
