IE is not working with AOL

I have AOL installed (have tried v7 and v8) but while
connected to AOL (which is working fine), IE cannot
access any sites - 'Page not found'. This also affects
any other applications that need internet access (Norton
live update, Windows update etc which all fail). Any
ideas ?
