Hi, I am having a problem with IE.

I am in a LAN, with one XP Pro which provides ICS
functionality to another XP Pro (laptop).

All configuration is correct (I mean it) on both sides.

This has worked perfectly in the past, but then I was on
vacations and took my laptop home, where I used A Wi-Fi
ADSL connection (but did not require any modification of
IE settings).

Now I am back at Uni....and the laptop does not connect
to the Internet...when I type a url it says (Internet
explorer could not open the search page).

Well....I tried solving this problem and looked for
trojans, and nothing came out.

I formatted both machines now, and the problem keeps
going!

I can see my UNI homepage on the laptop...only that one,
which means that the ICS is serving me the connection,
but for some reason its not passing out of the LAN.

Please help.

Thank you

Frederick

The Network card plugged into the Uni LAN or whatever probably should have
it's settings on "Auto" to obtain it's IP address and DNS server details
from the LAN DHCP servers. The other card will be 192.168.0.1

Assuming the ICS machine finds things that should all be okay.

ICS should provide DHCP service for the rest of the sub net, ie the laptop,
so again the settings for the card in the laptop should probably be auto...
ie in the card properties under TCP/IP protocol check the box marked "Obtain
settings automatically" or whatever.

You might also check tools>internet options>connections(Lan settings button)
and see if something set up a proxy server. The detect settings
automatically thing usually works but it might be worth changing that to
whatever is opposite for a trial.

It sounds like all this stuff should already be right, but confirming it
might help someone get closer to the problem.
