Hey everyone. I had IE 6, and could not change the home page from
"http:///". Anyone ever heard of this before? Im not very good with
registries, but this always rang a bell in my head as a registry issue.
Anyway, I just upgraded to IE 7 beta and the problem is still there. The
home page is an error page and the address is simply http:/// and nothing
else. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Logan,
a) are you connected to a corporate network? If so, they may change your
home page everytime you login. It happens on my workplace. They run a script
everytime I login that changes my homepage, screen saver settings, etc!

b) have you tried Hijack This? You can find it for free over the net. It
allows you to replace the IE Home page with a blank entry "about:blank".

c) Same with Spybot Search & Destroy (also free) where on Advance Mode you
can change IE Settings regarding the home page.

Good luck,
Claudio

Running any of the following? => Ad-aware Ad-Watch, Spybot, SpySweeper, Zone
Alarm, NAV 2006?

Running McAfee AV, personal Firewall, Ad-Aware Pro, Windows Washer, and
McAfee privacy service. Going to school for info security, so I am big on
being locked down tight. I am not connected to a corporate network, and am
very good with most things involving IE. I really cant figure this one out
though. Thanks for your responses by the way!

Ad-aware Pro's Ad-Watch (at least) will disallow the change.

Disable Ad-Watch (See http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=6077) > Change your
homepage > Close all IE windows > Open a new one to confirm the change >
Re-enable Ad-Watch, if desired.

If the change was still disallowed, check for the settings/options in McAfee
VirusScan, Privacy Service, and/or the firewall that may be involved.

With all due respect, if you don't fully understand how these security tools
work, perhaps it's best that you not use them yet, Logan. <wink>
