I have a locally held .htm file that then links into a database. every time I
start this file a bar appears at the top of the page saying 'To help protect
your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active
content that could access your computer. Click here for options' I can then
click and allow blocked content and have no further problems.

I have switched off pop up blocker and have tried to add the files path to
local intranet/trusted site but it will not allow me to added them as the
file is not got a // for mate i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\......etc

How can i force IE to allow this file to be started normally, as this as
only started happening after a automatic update a couple of weeks ago.

running IE6 and XP sp2

Hi,
This should have started with the XP SP2 update.

But...
There are three workarounds for this:
1. Rename the .HTM file to .HTA while it's still on your HD. HTA files
aren't as restricted.
2. Give each page the "Mark of the Web"
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/motw.asp
3. Internet Options> Advanced> Security> check "Allow active content to run
in files on My Computer ."
You will, of course, be giving up some of the enhanced security of the XP
SP2 update.

Hope this helps,
