IE has encountered a problem and needs to close ...

I've gotten this error message occasionally in the past,
but the last several days it happens every time I open
IE. I tried downloading SP1, but received a message that
a newer version was already installed so setup could not
continue.

My os is XP. Any suggestions? Thanks much!!

I encountered the same problem. I changed my settings
within Internet Explorer to allow updates. I then
launched IE again and was brought to the MS site, where
WINDOWS SP1 was available to be installed. SP1 also
includes the SP for IE.
