IE Hangs/Freezes ALL the time! Help!

I'm running XP. Within the past 4 days (I believe since I
downloaded the IE6 update, but I could be wrong), IE has
started hanging at pretty frequent intervals, for periods
from 5 seconds to 30 seconds, and sometimes freezing
altogether. This has nothing to do with the site I'm
visiting, I think, but just happens at random, frequent
times.

Additionally, a few other issues have developed in that
time: All of my IE shortcuts were eliminated (including
Start Menu and QuickBar); the log-in screen was re-
instituted (as if my preferences in TweakUI were blown
away - I've gone back into Tweak and hopefully that will
fix it); and, most disturbing of all, CTRL-ALT-DELETE no
longer takes me to the Task Manager - it takes me to that
strange screen from Windows 2000, the one with "Log
Off", "Lock Computer," "Shut Down," "Task Manager," etc.

Please help! How can I fix this? I wouldn't mind any of
the other stuff if IE didn't hang so frequently.

Thanks,
Josh

I have scanned for both, and neither is found. However, I
am getting pop-ups in SPITE of using Google Toolbar pop-
up blocker, so I suspect I still have something on there.

Any suggestions for a good spyware scanner?

Lots of them on the web, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.
Three popular examples are (alphabetically) AdAware, Pest Patrol and Spybot
Search and Destroy. Sometimes one application catches something that another
misses. (This is not unusual, and due to the nature of spyware.)

Another important line of defense is to not accept anything free from the
Internet (unless you have specific, reliable assurance). It's just like our
mothers told us about not accepting candy from strangers.
