Never had a problem before, now IE is hangs when trying to access the
previously viewed addresses in the address line drop down. Can use IE if
manually typing in addresses or if accessing from a search engine. Ran
spyware and adware cleaners and antivirus up to date. Any ideas?

The Registry edit referenced in Resolutions section of 918615 above can be
implemented by downloading:

HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix (Line 383, Right)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use: Download the .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want
to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file. You will
be prompted when the script is done.

I have the same problem. It started immediately after an automatic MS
security update this past weekend. When I click on my address bar, IE locks
up and generates an error report. I typically use the address bar to access
a number of sites that I don't have stored as favorites. We're also having
other IE "issues" with two other home computers that also started following
the MS updates.

Bottom line, it appears MS sent out updates that have screwed up IE on all
our computers.
