IE Hanging

Hello all,

I just noticed another post about this issue (few posts down) but wasn't
much help. I've been using my computer for a while. It is running Windows XP
Professional SP2. I'm having trouble with the IE as it seems to hang. If I
click the icon the first time, it works, but after that, I have to click the
IE icon about 5 times in order to bring the browser back up. But when I check
under the task manager I find multiple instances of the IExplore.exe process
running. I also have problems while shutting down my PC as it won't shut down
until I manually end all IExplore.exe processes. I have all the windows/IE
updates installed and have checked for Viruses, Spyware etc multiple times
using different softwares and found nothing.

Please help...

Thanks

Hi,
First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

It's likely that another program is causing this- possibly legitimate-
possibly malware.

From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to see if one
of them is the culprit.

Disable (for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers,
security, toolbars and other add-ons for IE, anti-virus, etc. Take a look at
any program that might be interfering with IE. You may have to reconfigure,
reinstall, or not reinstall, a program. Turn on the Windows Firewall (from
Control Panel or Security Center) before disabling a third-party firewall.

If not caused by a legitimate program, you should download, update and run
Ad-aware, Spybot and MS Anti-Spyware (Beta.)

Hi,

I had the same problem, but after a month of troubleshooting the problem
turned out to be the latest version of Sun Java (ver 5.0_6). I uninstalled
the update and went to an earlier version _5, all cleared up. You can read
on other forums about the _6 version causing problems in IE.... worth
checking....
