IE Hang

When I enter an address in the address field and press ENTER of when I click
on the down arrow in the address field IE hangs and in Task Manager I get the
message "Not Responding" I have run Adware and Spybot and removed all of the
ADD ONS except thiose related to Symantek.

I received one suggestion regarding something about an HTML command but it
was way over my head. This is a very recent problem and I have made no
changes to my computer other than Microsoft making an update on Saturday the
5th but this problem did not exist on the morning of the 16th.

Rick I am having the exact same problem as you discribed. The problem
cropped up for me after the recent windows update. I'm surprised I don't see
more people with the same problem. Any ideas of what could be happening?

I too am experiencing this exact same, frustrating problem. I seemed to
notice it after running updates. I can surf great by clicking on hyperlinks,
but IE freezes up whenever I type in a url or hit the drop down on the
address bar. I've run Spybot and other Spyware programs, but nothing seems
to help. Task Manager indicates that IE is "not responding."

I also tried doing a system restore back a couple months when IE was working
OK. that worked for a minute or two, but the problem returned.

I am also having trouble with my internet. i have to type http with every
website addy i enter. i uninstalled the recent updates and it was working
fine and when i reinstalled it wasnt working again. i do use mozilla
firefox as well and have had no problems with the browser. hopefully
microsoft will come out with another update to fix the bug.

I am suffering this problem on the dropdown on the address bar of Explorer,
it has now migrated to Excel and Word causing them to hang too. I'm a bit
out of my depth.

OK everybody one of the responses above gave us a temporary fix. If you
typee the http command prior to www. whatever it works but the drop down
still doesn't. This clearly seems to be a Microsoft problem and I would
agree that it happenened right after the update.

Just out of curiosity what virus program are you all running?

Thanks then thats not the culprit. My friend switched to mcafee when his
problems started

I dont know if this really worked or will work for anybody but I had him go
to tools/internet options/advanced/ and click on restore defaults. He
rebooted and the problem went away. But restoring defaults may not be what
everyone likes or want to do but so far so good. He has two machines that
had the problem XP Pro and XP home and he did it on both

I use Firefox so I dont really have that problem
Good luck

Sandi, Thank you! The patch from Ottmar seems to have corrected the
problem. However, I think we all hope that Microsoft comes up with an answer
that is conveyed to EVERYONE. As we all know, all users of MIcrosoft
products don't participate in the Newsgroups. Today was my first day of
participation, out of sheer desperation.

Thanks again to Sandy and all for responding,

Rick
