IE Guru challange

Symptom:
Click Windows Update on programs menu,
1) attempts to start windowsupdate.microsoft.com,
2) relinks to v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
3) Displays Thank you for your interest screen
4) Another machine with W2K SP4 will link up immediately.

Challange: What do you think is happening?


1) Running W2K SP4
2) All microsoft patch and service packs up to date
3) msblast.exe not running in task manager
4) Norton FixBlast did not find the worm
5) Norton Internet Security 2003 (Anti Virus & Personal
firewall running)
6) reinstalled SP4 and IE6 SP1 - not help

We were having the same problems as well. 1 time it would

be fine, the next we would get an error from the windows
update site, and every now and then, it would come up with
that Thank you screen. Now, everything is fine again and
we had done nothing. We interpreted this to be either
something wrong on Microsoft's side or maybe that's how
they deal with the excess of people trying to get updates
from their site now due to all this recent virus activity.
I do not believe it is a software problem.
