Why do I get the suffix [1] after the filename when I
save a file by dragging it from Internet Explorer and
dropping it into a folder? How do I stop it from doing
this? I'm sure it used to work properly many moons ago...
D.

dennis;

Because the file was in
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

Download 'em to a differnt folder instead of dragging 'em out of the
Temporary Internet Files folder.

You can also rename 'em.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I don't go into the temporary internet folder.
I just drag them from the browser window and drop them
straight to the desktop and they still get the [1] suffix.
More help would be appreciated.

Right click the picture you want to save | Save Picture As |
You'll notice that there won't be a [1] suffix.
Save where you want.

Again, thanks for the helpful comments.
I already use the right-click method in IE and it does
indeed give me a filename without the [1] suffix. But
I's still like to know what causes it and how I can stop
it from happening.
Thanks in advance.

Dennis;

I don't know exactly what causes it.

But I'm pretty sure that there's nothing you can do about it.

You get the [1] suffix with anything you drag from Temporary Internet Files
to Desktop. I assume that's why they have the Save As feature.

Anything that appears on your screen in IE, or whatever browser, is stored
in C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files.

So anything you drag from your browser window is really dragged from your
Temporary Internet Files.
