Everytime i put my cursor over something that uses flash it creates a
grey-ish border around it and says in the little pop-up box "Click To
Activate and Use This Control". I must then press it once before i can use
the links. I find this very annoying. how do i fix this. i cant figure out
what caused this and how to fix it.

thanks.

Please post a URL that is giving you issues with Flash.

The above example URL prompts for the latest build of Macromedia Flash.
It is your option to accept the prompt or not.
Ensure that current builds of Flash that may be installed on your computer
are not disabled.

Won't make a difference is 912945 is installed unless Macromedia changes the
coding on their page.

Is there any reason why this does not seem to apply in Win 98.
I am using Windows 98 and having read the background to the Security Update expected this behaviour after I applied the security patch which I mention installed successfully without any trouble . However I note that nothing has changed as far as I can see , all the Flash sites and the java applet examples referred to above work as they did before .

Its basic manners, if somebody replies to a thread in top posting, that you
continue in that vein.

In answer to your question, the reason you're not seeing the 912945 changew
on Win98 is because they doen't apply to Win98.

Sorry I may be looking at a different update I had in mind that the recent Cumulative update included this change but seems I am looking at the wrong one so in essence nothing should have changed for Win 98 I guess.

Sandi , I am sorry to upset you over such a trivial matter but it was just force of habit without thinking for me to go to the bottom to post my query as it seems to be the accepted procedure throughout most newsgroups . Such protocols really do not concern me too much, too old for such things to worry me any more , although in all truth I must say I would prefer the top posting method as obviously you do too.
I do not want to divert from the main subject however and as you will see in my subsequent post I realized I must have been looking at the wrong Update . Seems a bit strange however that Win 98 has seemingly escaped the requirements of the Patent suit thing

Graeme

I wouldn't say its 'escaped' per se - keep an eye out for progressions in
future.

Hi All,

Below is from a previous post.

Hello,

The reason for the unecessary activation is a patent dispute between
Microsoft and Eolas, who claim to have "invented" how plug-ins are
integrated in Web pages.

Microsoft offers several work-arounds how to embed objects avoiding the
activation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/ieupdate/

This should explain all.

Regards.
