IE file association with JPG doesn't work

D

Doug Demick

If I click on a *.jpg file to see how it will display in
Internet explorer, I get the following message:

"Windows cannot find IEXPLO~1.EXE. This program is needed
for opening files of type 'JPG File'."

It then allows me to browse for the file. When I browse to
c:\program files\internet explorer and click OK, I get the
message:

Cannot find c:\program files\internet
explorer\iexplo~1.exe.

Related problem: The Internet explorer icon does not
appear on the desktop or in the Start-Programs list.

Any ideas?

There are two options that I know of off the top of my
head.
1. Use a third party viewer to view the .jpg file.
Irfanview is a free download, you can find it by searching
www.google.com
2. You may have to repair I.E.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs > Select Internet Explorer and when you click on
Change/Remove, you will be given the option to repair the
program.
If that does not work, try downloading I.E. 6.0 SP1 and
running the installation again.
