ie favorites, corrupted ?

i have the favorites folder enabled on the startmenu but when i click
on it, there are no favorites. i can use explorer to go to the
favorites for the same user and they are there. how can i repair my IE
favorites so that they show up properly on the start menu (or even in
internet explorer).
 
Run regedt32.exe and have a look at the Reg_Expand_Sz string value of;

"Favorites"
found in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
(should be) %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

Are you saying they don't show up at all? From a command prompt;

dir "%userprofile%\favorites"

Are they there?

Did you check by;

dir "%userprofile%\favorites"

or something else? Sounds like where you're looking and the profile in use
are two different things.

If you install a browser like Firefox, it has an option to import
favourites from IE. If that was successful, you could perhaps then
export the favourites and re-import them into IE.
