My favorites in IE are now just pointed at the C:\Windows
folder. However, when I view C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Favorites it has all the correct links that
I used to have as my favorites! How do I change this so
that my favorites are correct again?

thanks,

Hi -
I have a similar problem and have posted here and on other
newgroups before, and have seen other similar posts, and
have never seen a reply. I actually last posted it here
under the subject "Favorites on Limited User Account" on
Jan 1 11:24am. (That has a little more detail about the
problem, you can check it out.)

If you ever find the answer to this from another source,
please email me the solution - (e-mail address removed)

Thanks

Go tp Start | Run and type
regedit
and press Enter.
Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders
In the right pane click Favorites and choos Modify. Enter the correct path.

I had tried this, I wrote that on my previous message.
Everytime I reopen IE it just overwrites these variables.
What else can I do?

That's why I included this in the reply

Though regardless, I am sorry for not being clearer. Is
there still any other way to rectify this problem?

Thanks

When you tried to import did you try to import from an identity or from an
Outlook Express store directory?

If the latter, the only other thing is to use one of these tools:
DBXtract (free): http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/
DBXpress: ($25) http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

I don't understand - this seems to be an Outlook thing -
I don't have Outlook. I went into regedit and changed the
keys manually... what do you mean?

If you want you can email me directly at
(e-mail address removed)

Thanks

http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/ has Outlook Express
written all over it. The first sentences of the program
features are:

*********
OE5 and OE6 have a proprietary binary format that makes
archiving individual messages difficult. In addition, a
number of people have indicated that their message folders
have become corrupted and OE can not read them.
Consequently, they have lost all the messages in that
folder.

DBXtract.exe extracts all mail and news messages from
individual dbx files. After extracting the messages one
can drag them from a Windows Explorer folder into an
Outlook Express mail folder.
*********

This does not sound like the problem I am describing,
unless I am missing something (which is entirely
possible...) I have a problem with my IE favorites folder.

Outlook and Outlook Express are different programs. It has nothing to do
with Outlook.

Hello.

I think I had the same problem.
Instead of C:\documents and settings\username\favorites
Internet Explorer was referenced to C:\winnt\favorites and
it was not possible to change this permanent.

I observed following discrepancy:
The type of the Favorites key in
HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\use
rShellFolders was changed from REG_EXPAND_SZ to REG_SZ.

How I solved the problem:
As it's not possible to change the type of the key I
exported the UserShellFolders part from a working profile.
I logged on as ADMINISTRATOR started regedit and exported
the UserShellFolders part to a file into a temporary
directory. Then I logged on as USER again started regedit
and imported the file.

I hope I could help you.
Regards,
Sven
