IE fails to launch more than one instance

This is a weird behavior. IE 6.0.28 launches as normal.
But when I try to open the second instance of IE, it
opens (the contents loaded) but then fails by showing the
send error report message window. I try again, and same
thing happens no matter how many time I try. But this is
not the weird part yet.

When I shift+clicked a link on the first instance of IE
to open a page on a new window, the new window of IE
opens without problem. Now, when I try open fresh
instances of IE from my desktop or Quick Launch taskbar,
everything back to normal. I mean now I can launch as
many instance of IE as I want. What the heck??

Did someone encounter the same thing?? Btw, I'm using
Windows XP Home.

In my personal experience, stuff like this happens when people load
third-party IE add ons and they're either not installed/uninstalled
correctly.

What you can do is first, uninstall any third party add ons you might have
that do stuff like modify toolbars and such.

Then, if the problem still occurs, you can check your "objects" from Tools
| Internet Options | Settings View Objects. I had one customer once who
had loaded something from Yahoo, uninstalled it, and it was still being
loaded when he ran IE and henceforth it caused problems.

We got rid of it by using a cmd.exe command prompt and looking at the
binary files in the objects directory and just deleting the DLL. You don't
really want to do this unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're
doing though.

Dan,

Thanks for responding. No, I do NOT have any third party
add ons (i.e. hotbar, etc.) installed. I always say no to
any pop up windows suggesting installing of any freeware
or application except I'm sure they r from Microsoft and
is for the well-being of my pc. Unless the third party
freeware installed without my consent, and it is hidden,
I have to say that the IE I'm running is clean.

FYI, I uncheck "Reuse window for lauching shortcut"
option in the Advanced tab of Internet Options. I'm
lost, can anyone help?

Well, it's AV'ing then. Right?

When you get that dialog to send info to Microsoft, is there an option to
view data? Post the data here if you can, or better yet, get a Dr Watson
data dump.

You say you have a workaround or not?

Thanks

I fixed the problem by downloading and run Ad-aware 6 to
search and get rid of the spyware/adware/whatever that
cause the problem. Thanks very much for your help.

Sincerely,
