Windows XP with SP2

IE starts then stops with no windows and no messages.

If I log on as another user - new - IE will start.

I've tried disabling all add ons yet IE still will not start.

Is there a way I can determine(debug) what is causing IE to fail?
How can I see what IE is trying to load and hopefully I can see
what component is causing IE to fail.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Start>Settings> Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections>Local Area
Connection>Properties>Configure>Power Management tab>uncheck Allow the
computer to turn off this device to save power.

IE stops working or drops connections after a while or in hibernate mode

Start>Settings> Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections>Local Area
Connection>Properties>Configure>Power Management tab>uncheck Allow the
computer to turn off this device to save power.

Eliminate any spyware.
What You Should Know About Spyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/devioussoftware.mspx

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

I've noted the many responses and have tried these in the past.
The fact IE will start as another user does imply something
is amiss as my normal user.
If I could see what IE is loading perhaps I would see the item
that keeps IE from starting up completely and shutting down.
I have no messages of any sorts and IE never shows any windows.
Is there a way to start IE and have IE show what DLLS, plugin-ins,
etc. it is trying to load?
Perhaps this method will hilite the offending code.

Thanks,

Steve :-)
