I have a fresh new XP installation on my notebook (only Office 2000
and AutoCad LT installed). The problem is that after installed the SP2
for XP every time I start my internet explorer there are certain pages
that will just close the program on me without prompt ! With simple
pages (like Google) i have no problem, but if i try open for example
the windowsupdate site or MSDN or some other dynamic pages, the page
appears for one second and then Explorer closes itself. I allready
tried with IE7 but the problem remain. :-(
Any idea ?
Thanks - Alex.

Hello,

If you are using IE6, try running it with add-ons disabled. Start Internet
Explorer as normal, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.
Disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem appears
and you get the culprit.

If you are using IE7, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Internet Explorer 7 (No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons. Close the
browser and see whether the problem occurs again.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE7, go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
and disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

Why did you do a "fresh" install of WinXP? Was it a Repair Install or a
format & reinstall?

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
