IE Explorer Can't load certain websites

We've been unable to load certain websites. If we try to go to them, we get
a error 500, site can not be found message. We can ping the site(s) and have
been round and round w/ TimeWarner's support staff. They think it is
something in the program. Does anyone have any ideas? This sounds a lot
like RonGGG's problem in his 9/23 post, except that we aren't running through
a Linxsys router..just a TW cable modem.
We'd really appreciate any ideas!

I don't think it is "Exactly" the same problem but it may be related - it's
a bit like saying "There's something wrong with the engine" when your car
sounds bad :)

Take a look here and allow some time to read, it's a nice easy to read page.

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

and some information also here at

http://www.cexx.org/

Before using anything download this

http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Go for Ad-Aware and Spybot for ease of use and the Microsoft one will help
you prevent further trouble, all free but will take time. The first two
might find a lot of cookies and stuff, don't worry too much about them for
now, it's the more serious stuff you need to deal with first. Some things
can't be removed without affecting your system

Hope this helps and if the problem persists by all means post back.

Have you got a files called "hosts" (no filename extension) ?
Try renaming it to something like "hosts.old".
It may be in the Windows folder.

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS
