For the past week anytime I try to type a website address, IE takes me to
that site but I get an immediate error message saying IE must close.
App name: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180
ModName: yshortcut.dll
ModVer: 2005.11.10.2
Offset: 000058b0

I'd appreciate any help!

Uninstall Yahoo Companion (toolbar), reboot and see if the behavior

DO NOT uninstall Yahoo Messenger, it will not help and you will just have to
re-install it again.
yshortcut.dll has nothing to do with the problem.

Who said anything about Yahoo Messenger? Even if it was related to the
problem, what's the big deal about reinstalling it?

I am getting the same error and hope there is someone out there that can help
the both of us. I too have Yahoo toolbar installed but have had it installed
for quite some time now. I cannot see it being related to the Yahoo toolbar.

Hi All, re: Yahoo Companion Toolbar V:6.3.2.0 - I beleive this is still in
Beta and I have observed that it has some bugs in it.
Anyway to add my pennys worth, Mr Bear has the correct solution I beleive.
Re-installing the toolbar should fix the problem with the yshortcut.dll.
By the way this dll hijacks the Microsoft SearchHook, disabling IE's
SearchURL's. You can find a partial fix for this at

http://www.iecustomizer.com/searchookfixdownload.htm

This registry tweak will reset IE's search hook to Microsofts'. However the
Yahoo toolbar adds its own search hook each time it is loaded so you can
expect erratic searching behavior. I don't know if this qualifies the Yahoo
Toolbar as malware, but remember its still in beta. For tabbed browsing the
MSN Search Toolbar is at this stage a more stable product compared to the
Yahoo product.

Hope I'm not to technical.

Regards.

I don't have a Yahoo Toolbar. Only Yahoo programs listed in add/delete are
Yahoo Extras, Yahoo Install Manager, & Yahoo Messenger (ver. 7,0,2,120). BTW,
I'm using XP & IE 6. Should I delete Yahoo Messenger? I don't know what
Yahoo Install Manager does, so I don't want to delete that unless someone can
tell me.

I'm having this same problem with my laptop, and have for over a week (see
less concise post on the13th). I'll be checking when I get home to see if
one of the kids installed the yahoo toolbar under their user name and, if so,
uninstalling it to see if it solves the problem. I'll be watching here for
other suggestions in case I, too, find I don't have it.

In the mean time, the two work-arounds I've found are 1) typing the web
address in the actual search bar instead of the address bar then clicking on
the link in the search results and 2) using AOL Explorer from the menu in
AIM. I also don't have any problem using a previously typed address from the
drop-down list, using favorites, or accessing pages from history. Hope you
find this helpful until you can get the problem fixed.

Uninstall all Yahoo applications via Add/Remove Programs & reboot, then see
if the problems persist.
