IE Error Messages

I have Internet Explorer 6 because I can not get to my email messages in
email.com using version 7 with AT&T Yahoo. However, every time I exit
out of IE 6, I receive the following message:

iexpore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x02fd2bf2" referenced memory at "0x030c6ac8". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program

I never use to get this message, so something has happened within the
past month. I have Windows XP and I have a Dell Computer which I
purchased a year a go. I was going to reinstall Internet Explorer 6
but I can not locate a copy of it. Everytime I search for it all I find
is IE 7. Also, I get a message that says an error has occurred in the
script on the page.

mrsmoney,

There have been a number of posts regarding this issue over the past week or
so within this group. To recap, my understand is:

"The instruction at <memory address> referenced memory at <memory address>.
The memory could not be "read/written" " error messages can be caused by one
of the following:

1. Failing RAM.
2. Buggy software.

In my opinion option 2 is the most likely cause.

As it is IE you are using the culprit is probably a poorly written
third-party IE plugin. Disable them all and see if this addresses the
problem (Tools > Manage Add-Ons > Enable or Disable Add-Ons)

The script errors you are seeing are a separate issue. These are bugs in the
webpages you are viewing. You simply need to turn off script debugging in
IE. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and tick the "Disable Script
Debugging (Internet Explorer)" option.

I've seen this error message on many of my customers computers. It
occurs on systems both new and old - including my own personal
computers. It's almost surely a bug in IE-6 (the common denominator), or
some bad code on certain websites and is definitely NOT a memory or
hardware problem. I have yet to see the error in IE-7 and have never
seen it while using Firefox - my preferred browser. At this point, I'm
ignoring it because it doesn't seem to cause any other problems and with
all the other Windows XP annoyances, this is a minor one.

I totally agree.

Are you able to remember anything you might have done (installing an
application or toolbar, any kind of scan, etc.) in the past month?

Are you able to perform a System Restore to a point in time before this
error message started showing up?

Have you tried a clean boot?

I'm confused. At the beginning of the post you said you have IE 6. But
in your last paragraph, it sounds like you're saying you have IE 7.
Which is it?!

Or perhaps you had rolled back IE 7 to IE 6, but for some reason you
would like to reinstall a fresh copy of IE 6? Is that it?

If you'd like to repair IE, see:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

or

http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm

(I hope you have an XP disk handy!)

Do you have SP2 installed and all the subsequent security patches as
well?
Also, I get a message that says an error has occurred in the script on
the page.

What is the exact message?

If your memory is fine (which I suspect is the case), then your problem
is either malware or a browser add-on like the Yahoo toolbar. I'd
uninstall all browser helpers. If that doesn't work, a full malware scan
is in order (and possibly a HijackThis scan).

I get the error most often during boot up. No applications running
except for Symantec and other security functions imposed by my
employer. You rule out hardware. I'm not so inclined to do so. I'm
going to swap out the RAM and see what happens. I'll let y'all know.
