I want to switch off the enhanced security configuration within IE6 on a
2003 TS box.
I've gone to the console, done the add/remove programs, windows components
thing and switched it off there. But if I log on as a user and start
browsing then I still get the same enhanced security warnings coming up. In
that same session, I then go to add/remove programs etc and the feature is
apparently disabled.
With some users, it seems that after logging on a number of times, and
adding/removing IEESC a few times, it eventually disappears but....
1) I can't figure out exactly what I'm doing to get rid of the damn thing
2) Whenever I log on for the first time as a new user, it comes back.
I've also tried using the inetesc.adm policy add-in from the 2003 resource
kit with no joy. It makes no sense to me, when the settings in that file
are all in HKLM, that....
a) I have some users who can use the system without IEESC, and some that
don't. (Giving the ones that are broke admin rights makes no difference)
b) The basic add/remove thing allows (apparently) for different policies
for users and admins. If that's the case then is there a registry setting
that controls a user or group of users?
I've seen this problem posted by various people on the net, but no solutions
suggested anywhere (beyond those that haven't read the original question and
come back with 'Use Add/Remove programs')
Tearing my hair out over this one, so any help would be much appreciated.
