IE ENCOUNTERED PROBLEM ERROR ***(O_O)***

Why do I get the error message...Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close???????

It has happened 4 times in past 1/2 hour and is driving
me nuts. Is it to do with the site I was veiwing? because
it hasn't happened since being on this support site.

grumble/swear/grumble.

You may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. In addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Some variants of malware can replicate themselves over and
over if not removed properly. Please follow all instructions carefully to
be sure your system is thoroughly cleaned:

Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this

evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your

(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will

Thankyou for your reply, Why would I encounter problems
on some sites and not others?

I have seen on many forums talk about IE not being able
to cope with too many layers of protection and causing
more crashes and problems? For this reason I am very
cautious about these things, especially since I do not
really understand that well what I am doing. I will look
at the things listed below, but sounds extremely
complicated.


By the way, I haven't downloaded the SP2 because last
time I updated with a Service Pack, my antivirus software
was disabled and I had real problems back-tracking to fix
it.

Some may have to do with the JavaScript programming of some webpages, which
requires Javascript in order to function properly in IE. You might also try
the following and see if it will help with the sites you mnight still have
problems with:

Sun also offers an automatic download and install of the 1.4 Java plug-in

For the MS Java VM, you may need to install v.3805 or v.3809 prior to
upgrading to v. 3810 if you didn't previously have MS Java v. 3805 or 3809
installed.

The following procedure has also been reported to work for Win2kSP4 by Saybo
at
"I always try to install the 3805 package 1st. Most of the time that does
not work, so I then have them download the 3810 package, open it in WinZip
and extract msjava.dll and vmhelper.dll to the system32 folder. Then run
the 3810 install. This has had a 100% success rate for the last couple of
months."

All the feedback I've had about using this approach for the SP4 case has
been favorable, so far.

Both Java VM's can co-exist on your machine quite nicely. Just select which
one you want to use in Tools|Internet Options|Advanced and restart all IE
browsers. Here, courtesy of Mitch Gallant, MVP Security, is a tiny utility
which allows you to toggle and view status of your current Java VM vendor
associated with IE:

A note from Mitch Gallant:

"One note about the JVM Selector utility: If/when you install a new
version of Sun J2SE, you need to manually select to have Sun JVM as default
JVM for IE (in install), or after install via the JavaPlugin control panel.

for the utility to know about JavaPlugin. After that, the utility should
work properly."

Thanks Jan, This is very interesting as I recently
downloaded "JUDO" (have you heard of it?) It is a
tutorial programme for learning JAVA. In order to use it
I had to download SDK, It kind of threw up a whole host
of other problems that may be related to the java issue.
hmmm... ultimately I haven't been able to get anywhere
with JUDO, because although installed, there is a driver
mismatch error....sigh...lol I just seem to get in deeper
and deeper. If only there were a site dedicated to
explaining to non techy's all these things in a simpler
way.

Ait't it the truth! :-) And if you do find that dedicated site on Java,
please post it here too! LOL! It seems the Javascript situation is creating
a suitcase full of problems, and we have to try to pack it into a thimble!
