Click "Tools" -> "Internet Options" - then the "Advanced"
tab.
Under "Browsing", un-check the "Install On Demand" on
both "Internet Explorer" and "Others".

Click on the "Security" tab, then the "Internet" icon,
then the "Custom Level" button.
Under "ActiveX controls and plug-ins", "Download signed
ActiveX controls", choose "Prompt".
Under "Miscellaneous", "Access data across domains",
choose "Disable".
Under "Installation of desktop items", choose "Prompt".

Always click "Apply" and "OK" when completing each task.
This should stop the "auto-downloads", plus any unwanted
scripts that some sites try to "force" on you.

Thanks, but I'm afraid that didn't work...I have also
deduced that it is only happening on zip file downloads.
The problem is that it is defaulting to "Open" instead
of "Save As". Any other ideas? Where is a list of file
type specific settings kept?

Hey, I fixed it! In case any one is wondering- I had to go
to Folder Options, find the file type Zip and under
Advanced, I clicked confirm open after download.
