On some sites that I need to download info for importing, I get this warning
to click the ribbon to allow the download to proceed.
How do I stop this from happening?
It is very annoying

Place sites into Exceptions list (to get around Pop-up blocking):
Internet Explorer > main menu /Tools/Popup Blocker>Pop-up Blocker settings

In block titled "Address of Web site to allow" type in www.yoursite.com , then click Add, then press Close.

See if that makes the difference.

Did not work.
Any other suggestion.
Is IE 7 any better in circumventing some of the security settings.
What I mean is it more user friendly?

Jeffrey,
Try this. In IE, use main menu, Tools > Internet Options. Select Security tab. Click the (custom) settings button.
When the security settings list shows, scroll down the list, and review the *Downloads* section.
Look at Automatic prompting for file downloads. Select Diasble.

Apply change / ok. Try again.

What happens if you put that site in your Trusted Security zone?

BTW the official term for what I think you are looking at is the
XPsp2 Information bar. You could try including those last two words
as a keyword phrase in a web search for more ideas.

Also, have you tried the Information bar Help?
E.g. while an Information bar is active on an IE window
press Alt-n,Menu,i One of the questions I see answered
in there (at least for IE7b2p) is: Can I turn off the Information bar?

Good luck
