For what it's worth: I endured this for many months (no
https), also no hotmail, AOL messenger, and some other
sites would not connect, even at zero security settings.
Eventually I traced it to a Norton antivirus or firewall
installation (I forgot which). Microsoft was no help,
even thugh they gave me a ton of procedures to go thru,
which I faihfully did. Eventually, I had to manually
uninstall Norton and uninstall everything in registry
with "Norton" or "Symantec" in it, took forever, but it
worked! Was I ever happy! If you have Norton anything,
try to get completely rid of it, incloding registry
entries. You can always reinstall it if it is not the
culprit.
