IE "DNS error" This page cannot be displayed

I'm having problems similar to a lot of the messages.
When I attempt to access accout info (amazon.com and many
others) or when I try to set up new accounts, I get "This
page cannot be displayed" and "DNS Error or cannot find
server". I have tried changing privacy and security
settings, numerous correspondence with Dell, and
disabling McAfee programs. If anybody has a clue, please
help.
