IE Disconnects from DSL

I have a problem where internet explorer will not connect to the internet via
my DSL connection. I am running IE 6.0.29. When I try to log on to the
Internet I cannot get a connection via my DSL line. I get a "connect"
message, but it will not connect. Then my default dial up connection pops
up. If I connect via the dial up I have no problem connecting to the
internet. I can then shut down my dial up connection and my DSL connection
will be live and work. In the past I have been able to remain connected to
the internet for days via my DSL connection. Now if I do not continually use
the DSL connection it will again disconnect and I have to go through the dial
up routine again...obviously very annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have updated all my virus software with no problems found. Also,
downloaded and installed all the latest IE and XP updates from Microsoft. It
didn't help.

Rebooted computer and connected okay the first time, but again had problems
after a short delay of not using IE.

Also, I noted that when I rebooted my dial up connection automatically
popped up. I have no idea what might be causing that also.

thanks,

thanks,

Start with Control Panel | Internet Properties, and go to the "Connections"
tab. There you want to set it to "Never dial a connection". Also, go to
your "LAN Settings..." and make sure that none of the boxes are checked.

Next, you want to open MS Outlook Express, go to Tools | Options, and go to
the "Connection" tab. There you want to make sure that none of the boxes
are checked.

Also, while in MS Outlook Express, go to each account, and check the
Account Properties; once again, the "Connection" tab. Make sure that
"Always connect to this account using:" is not checked.

After that, you should never see a dial-up connection pop up, unless you
explicitly invoke a DUN agent from the Dial-Up Networking menu.
