Hi there,

Internet Explorer 6 on XP Professional disappears if I try to go anywhere
with it.

It's set on about:blank as the default home page and comes up thus so, but
if I try to go anywhere with it, it gets to where ever it's going and
disappears all of a sudden.

I'm thinking there must be a bug in the system?

Thanks,

Gordon

Maybe but could also be TIF corruption as well.

Boot up to Safe Mode, log in as Administrator.
Blow away the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder for each user
profile.

Also, clear out ALL the Temp folders.

Boot back up normally and check it.

Worked on one computer here the other day.

You might be infected with CoolWeb Search, but first try the following:

Disable email scanning in your antivirus product, then test and see if it's
fixed.

If not, do this:
Go to Start | Run and type
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

If still not, there has been a problem with web surfers visiting
www.webforhumans.com and not having a popup blocker installed or clicking
onvarious links at that page which changes their home page in Internet
Explorer to www.about-blank.biz and to remove the bugs it installs requires
the use of HijackThis which can be found at:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/HijackThis.exe or you can try:

Also review the info in this forum about the problem:
