IE corrupted by virii and spyware

I have three Windows 2000 PCs that were all infected by W32.HLLW.Gaobot.gen
and a variety of ad/spyware. I believe I have successfully cleaned the PCs
of both Gaobot and the ad/spyware. Everything seems to be running fine
except that none of them will contact Symantec or Network Associates
websites. All other sites seem to work and other PCs in the office can reach
these sites with no problem. Have I not fully removed the virus? Or did the
virus corrupt IE in a way to prevent it from accessing websites of companies
that provide antivirus protection and advice? How do I fix this problem?

Check the hosts file. Probably entries there that prohibit going to those
sites.
