IE converts imbedded Excel file to PDF automatically

We have a website that processes report queries for us. The site gives us the
ability to export data directly into an Excel spreadsheet, to then be viewed
or saved as necessary. The issue we are having is that, when we do a data
export, Excel opens & closes in about 3 seconds, then the document gets
automatically converted to a PDF file.

Here are the software versions that we are running: Office 2003 SP2, XP
SP2, IE 6.0 SP2, Adode Acrobat Standard 7.0.8.

Uninstalling Acrobat fixes the issue. However when Acrobat is reinstalled,
the problem reoccurs. I have added the site to the Trusted Sites list,
enabled all the script/active X controls, and disabled the pop-blocker but
still nothing (the above has since been returned to their default values). I
have posted this issue on Adobe's website as well, but I think it's an IE
issue.

Any ideas?

I am not an Acrobat expert, but I would bet that there is some setting in
Acrobat controlling this behavior.
