IE constantly ticks harddrive

Whether active or idle, MSIE is addressing my harddrive in one-second
intervals, like the ticking of a clock. I shut down IE and the sound
stops. I tried downloading and reinstalling. No change. I've scanned
for a virus. Clean. The other browser I use (Firefox) is silent.
Any ideas?

Gary,

Right click on your taskbar and select Task Manager from the popup menu.

Select the processes tab and then click on the CPU column until it sorts
with the highest % at the top.

See if you can spot a process that 'moves' (increases CPU time) with every
tick (approximately). That will be the culprit. If it is iexplore.exe then
that is IE6 which you already knew. However, if another process moves with
each tick - than what is it? That will give you a clue perhaps.

Yours,
Felix
