Hi all,
I have had a bit of a problem with IE6 closing, saying
that it "had encountered a problem and needs to close",
and I have seen many others have had similar problems.
Searching the Microsoft site for that error message,
there are several quite different reasons this could
happen. Jan on this newsgroup told me that it was
probably 3rd party malware, although I tried all the
different tools (spybot, cwshredder, sysclean, nortons
etc) with no luck. I finally resorted to doing
websearches on files that suspiciously had modified at
crash time. Voila - it turns out I had a mutated version
of Troj/Banker-Y or PWSteal.Banker-B. Easily cleaned up
and all seems to be working now.
You were right, thanks Jan!!
