Hi, I use XP with IE V 6 SP2 and just downloaded new updates from MS. Since
then, every time I try to open Internet explorer it closed with an error;
after I send the error report it directs me to an MS window dealing with
add-ons at
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=d37a4873-84c3-4b09-aee3-ab57dfb60f33&SID=1476

I have disabled all add-on except those from MS; tried disabing the MS ones
also and it still didn't work.

The error message says "IE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry..."

Error signture read:
AppNAme: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.02900.2180 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 001eb33

Error report contents states:
Exception Information
Code 0xc06d007f Flags: 0x00000000

I also tried a system restore but I'm still having the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mary Ann

Thanks - I looked at many links and tried several things, but IE is still
closing as soon as I open it. Many of the links only applied to either IE 5
or to operating systems prior to XP Home Edition.

If there are any other suggestions on what to try, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,
Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann :-)

You might also try the following and see if it helps:

How To Update Video Driver

If you don't know the location of your Video driver, or how to find it:
Location for XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/games/learnmore/updatingdrivers.mspx
or......
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314854
Find the information on your video driver. Then go to the website for mfg.
of the video driver and look for the update to download and install. There
may also be a Update Driver button on the dialog box you can use to go
direct to the update download site.

Update your scripting engine. The latest scripting engine can be found at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

For 2000 and XP go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
The install includes a new jscript.dl

It *could* also be malware causing the problem.
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

Be aware, there are many types of scumware that your antivirus and some
removal tools cannot detect or remove. Therefore, use the programs and run
as described in the instructions here. Some variants can continue to
replicate themselves each time your computer starts up if not properly
removed.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what video driver I have, although I saw
something called NVIDIA, so I downloaded the driver for that and wil see if
it works. The only difference between when IE worked and when it didn't is I
updated my MS files form microsoft updates and updated AOl to security
9.0...since then IE hasn't worked, and I've run all my virus, ad-aware, and
norton utilites and cleared out anything they found.

I'm doubting the driver update will work, but we'll see. If it doesn't I'll
post again, but if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann :-)

Have a look at the information here:

AOL and Internet Explorer error
http://www.cleverhack.com/blog/archives/000121.html

Also, do you have any 3rd party programs such as popup blockers, Google or
Yahoo toolbars? If so disable them. If you have Yahoo Companion uninstall
it.

Can you find that last update from the Add/Remove Programs with Show updates
checked? If so, try to uninstall it and see if that resolves the problem.

If not, or it does not resolve the problem, do you have a restore point that
you can do a System Restore back to prior to installing that update? That
way, if it solves your problem you are able to continue to have Internet
access while you find out how to resolve the problem with the update. If
not, then you the update may not be the cause of your problem and you can
reinstall.

Hope this helps.

The number one cause of kernel32 errors is video drivers, followed closely
by a corrupt cache.
