Puzzling behavior from IE:

www.msn.com comes up just fine

www.google.com page not found
news.google.com comes up just fine

www.consumerreports.com page not found

www.hotmail.com page comes up, but when I try to sign in, page not
found

I've run Norton AV, Spybot Search and Destroy and Trend Micro software
on
all local drives. Nothing found.

Any suggestions for how to diagnose the problem from here
would be very much appreciated.

Windows version?

Do you find google.com and/or consumerreports.com in your hosts file?

The file 'hosts' (no extension; not Lmhosts) can be found at:

Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Win 98/ME = C:\WINDOWS

You can open it with Notepade.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
