This is on my computer which is running Windows XP and is connected to a Linksys router which is connected to a Comcast cable modem. My issue is that I cannot connect to the internet. When connecting to any site, I get the "Cannot find server or DNS error". I have 4 machines on the network. 3 XP and one ME.

1. The other 3 machines on the network are working fine. No issues with connecting the the internet.
2. I can see and access the other machines on my home network.
3. I cannot see the router by entering it's IP address in the web browser.
4. I can ping the router however.
5. When I go to the Settings / Control Panel / Network, I see the Local Area Connection as enabled but the Internet Connection says disabled.
6. I can disable my network connection and the re-enable it with no problems.
7. I ran another cable from the router to my machine with the same results.
8. Norton Live Update does work so TCP/IP is working.
9. I can get and send e-mail via Outlook.
10. I am able to run "Windows Update", select updates and heve them installed.

have you put your machine to another port on the router?

This is not a Windows XP problem its your ISP problem.

Since on cable connection..disconnect the cable modem.. aka-(unplug it from
electrical outlet) wait 5 minutes replug in outlet...all green lites should
glow plus a blinking amber one...if not call your ISP support.

Hi Ellcre
5. When I go to the Settings / Control Panel / Network, I see the Local Area Connection as enabled
but the Internet Connection says disabled.

Above, what do you mean by "the internet connection" ?
In my network settings Ive only got "local area connection" and "1394
connection" listed.

Do you have a firewall running (either Internet Connection Firewall or
another vendor)? If so then disable it while you're troubleshooting.
The sites you can't connect to using http, can you ping them by name ok?
When you can't see the router from the browser, did you try opening a
command prompt, typing ipconfig /all and see what your ip address is?
Do that anyway and check what addresses your system is using for DNS. Check
all values (except ip address) are the same for each machine on the network.

RandyH,
I have bypassed the router completely and plugged directly into the cable modem with the same results.

I it was an ISP problem, wouldn't all machines on my network be having the sames problem? I have also just pinged a site on the internet but using the same IP address in my browser gave the error. It's as if my browser is corrupted or a setting got changed. I have compared every setting I can see to another machine and they are the same.

Frustrating!!
