Just recently I installed the sp Q828750. Since then I
have not been able to open such sites as the Windows
Update, Yahoo Mail, Mapquest and others. Some sites I can
get to just fine. The explorer takes a long time and then
it times out with a page can not be displayed. Please help.

Q828750 has been superceded by Q824145/Nov-03 Cumulative Patch for IE.

Please use Windows Update for such patches instead of installing ones you
think you need. Always disable your anti-virus application and close all
other running processes before going to Windows Update and when
downloading/installing from any MS page.

I do rely on Windows Update to tell me what sp to load. I
loaded Q828750 because that is what Windows Update
suggested. I have also loaded Q824145 as well. My problem
stil occurs. Its almost as if I have a broken file or
registry entry but I am not sure if thats possible. Any
other suggestions?

If all was well with your system, Q828750 would not have installed if
Q824145 had already been installed (plus you state you're now having
problems accessing WinUp). I suspect you've been hijacked:

I highly recommend using HijackThis

assist in the removal of these bad guys. **Post your files to

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.[/QUOTE]

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (SFC /SCANNOW for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.
