I need some help. I do a clear history on a regualr basis and I also delete
all files and offline content. My question is how does IE remember what
sites I been at? Example If I start typing on the url line www.abctest.com
it will bring up all the sites that start with www.ab etc. Why ?
How do I truley clean out the history in IE not just the drop down url
window all of it?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tom

Index.dat file was the culprit, Tom.

Try also...
CCleaner (freeware), from http://www.ccleaner.com/
About CCleaner, courtesy of Sandi Hardmeier - Microsoft MVP: "Be very very
VERY careful with CCleaner. We are seeing a lot of problems with that
software removing hotfix data making it impossible to uninstall IE7 and any
other hotfix/update."

And...
Free History Eraser (deletes also index.dat files):
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm
The History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers_8.htm#deltree

Go to Clean Up Center:
http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/center/cleanup.htm
Clic on "Clean Up Scan".

Then set your IE cache (TIF folder size) at about 50/60 mb.

Thanks for the info. I downloader History Eraser and it got rid of what I
needed. I had to uninistall it tho becasue Windows Defender claims it is
spyware or unwanted program.
Also it deleted all my cookies and I kike to keep them around so I do not
have to keep signing on to web sites etc.

But I have a APC Biopod that saves all my signon /password settings So I
should be able to clear everything as soon as I get it all setup.

Thanks again Tom
