IE browser wont browse

My wifes pc suddenly stopped browsing the net. She has a
broadband connection which is connected. Its as if IE is
not communicating with the connection.
I downloaded IE6 and installed it on her PC but its still
the same

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).
