Does IE has the automatic upgrade feature ? If yes, how
can I enable/disable this feature and how can I configure
the URL to look for for the upgrades ?

By automatic upgrade feature I mean, when enabled IE
should look for the latest IE version or service pack on
microsoft site or any internal site. IE should try to
upgrade itself in case a new version/service pack is
available.

Thanks a lot. I checked the "browsing section" in advanced
tab. The "Automatically check for Internet explorer
update" is already checked (i.e. enabled).

Few more questions:
Does IE ask before automatically updating itself in case a
new service pack/patch is available?

How come I do not see any notification from browser
like "a latest version of IE is available. should I
upgrade the current version" ? I am running IE
6.00.2462.0000.

How can I verfiy the functionality of "Automatically check
for Internet explorer update" ?

Regards

Yes it does. In IE go to Tools...Internet
Options...Advanced tab, Browsing section, put a check in
the box by "Automatically check for Internet Explorer
updates", click Apply, click Okay.
As for specifying a specific URL for the updates, this
can be done with IE installed by the IEAK:
