Go into IE

Menu bar Tools/Internet Options/programs and check the box that says to
check for the default browser

See if the new browser program is in Add/Remove programs in Control Panel and
remove it.

Make IE default. Should prompt at least Outlook Express always prompt that
it is not default and do you want to change. I would think IE would do the
same

try start button Set program access and Defaults....web browsers are listed
under the custom button

You may use the Set Program Access and Defaults feature to set your default
browser. To set Internet Explorer as the default (this repairs the file
association settings as well), try this:

From Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs applet, and choose Set Program
Access and Defaults button. [ Alternately, click Start, Run and type control
appwiz.cpl,,3 ]

Click the Custom button once. From the list that appears, select Internet
Explorer and then click the OK button.
