Hi all,

XP Pro SP2+, & an IE6 setup question:

How do I get IE to be the default browser?
Before you say Tools Options Programs, tick the box that says
IE should check to see if it's the default browser, I have done
that. Plus, unchecked and rechecked it, too.
I -thought- there was a place to actually -tell- IE to be the
default, but darned if I can find it!
So ... there must be something else to it. The conflicting
browser is the Yahoo-verizon browser supplied when they give you
DSL at Verizon. They throw in the browser, and it is useful, but
.... I still want IE to be my default, expecially when I click a
link in an email and such.
The Yahoo-Verizon browser is an IE knock-off, and has almost
identical settings, and I have set it to NOT check to see if it's
the default browser, but there must be something else I'm
missing?
System is clean as far as I can tell, have NSW and several
adware/malware packages; they all say it's fine. And, they're
all updated/current, namely Adaware, Sypbot S&D, SypwareGuard and
WinPatrol.

Any thoughts on how to get IE to fire up insterad of the Yahoo
browser when I click a link in OE?

Thanks for any thoughts/assistance,

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
