I keep getting this little message lately when closing my browser (not
always, just sometimes). I have searched the Microsoft help, but it doesn't
have the error number above. The full message reads: "iexplore.exe -
Application Error - The instruction at "0x08de454d" referenced memory at
"0x08de454d". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate program"

I always click "ok" then it goes away. What the heck is this - anyone know?
I did just install Counterspy and my first online game, "Virtual Villagers"
through Yahoo. I have SP2...Norton....run my disk cleaning, temp file
deleting, defrags, regularly.

Is there an easier way to look up particular error numbers using Microsoft?
I couldn't find it - almost an hour of searching....ugh. TY for any help!

This error message is almost always due to one of three causes:

1. Malfunctioning RAM - the hexadecimal numbers you are seeing are
memory addresses. You can test your RAM here:

"Windows Memory Diagnostic"
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

While it's certainly possible that you have bad RAM, it's not the most
likely cause.

2. Viruses and other malware - You can determine this by exhaustively
testing your system. I say "exhaustively" because malware is becoming
increasingly difficult to catch.

While it's certainly possible that you have some type of infection, it's
still not the most likely cause. Here is the most likely cause:

3. A program active on your computer is not releasing its grip on a
memory address, making it impossible for Internet Explorer to shut down
on its own. By clicking 'OK' to the message you are, in effect, forcing
IE to shutdown.

What program would exhibit such chutzpah to Internet Explorer? It must
be a program that runs with Internet Explorer, such as an activex
control or a browser helper object (BHO).

Some helper, right?

To find out which one is the bad boy, the next time this happens open IE
and go to Tools > Manage Add-ons. One or more of the "Add-ons currently
loaded in Internet Explorer" is your candidate. Disable each one in turn
(which may require you to unload or uninstall the associated program)
until you find the culprit.

In my case, it was my advertising blocker.

There is another possible cause. In my opinion, this is also not the
most likely cause, but I would be remiss if I didn't tell you about it:

"You may receive a "The memory could not be read" error message when you
click certain Web site links in Internet Explorer 6"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;899811

Happy hunting.

Thanks for the chuckles here, Ted, & especially for the help! I am busy
running all my clean-up programs as I write this - Norton found some problem
files it (and I) didn't know what to do with, I believe they are in the temp
section....am defragging right now....I don't know much about "add ons" but
do see, thankx to ur instructions, a "Bonjour" that I will try to disable
because I do not know what it is. It installed the other day while I was
downloading updates to my Kodak Easyshare program. So, I will try that one
first...then probably find I've messed up my Kodak stuff....I hear the violin
strings playing, lol! I am also about to use your link for the
Malfunctioning RAM - I have never tried that before. TYVVM! ~ Georgia

Glad I could help. As a general rule, all problem solving begins *after*
your computer is 100% free of any kind of malware.
