This discussion relates to another thread I posted about not being able to
reliably open IE. I have started this new thread because I think this might
be a whole new ballgame! I think I have found the enemy and they are MANY !
I stumbled around and looked in IE/Tools/Internet Options and found Manage
Add-ons under the Programs tab.
What I found was that I had an unbelievable amount of add-in programs
attached to IE. I have disabled most of them but a few look like they might
be important. It's no wonder the darn thing was screwed up! I'm surprised
I have not stumbled into this area before.
Anyway, there are two ways to sort them; one is add-ins that are currently
loaded in IE and the other is programs that have been used. In the "have
been used" selection, there are a lot that are still showing as enabled.
Let me apologize in advance for the length of this missive.
Here are five that I still have enabled:
OWSBrowserUI Class - Microsoft
OWSClientMiscApis Class - Microsoft
SearchAssistantOC - Microsoft
Shockwave Flash Object - Macromedia, Inc.
Spybot-SD Internet Explorer Protection - Safer Networking Ltd.
Any advice on what these five do and if I should keep them?
Here is what I disabled:
Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - Browser Helper Object
AIM - Browser extension
AOL Toolbar - Browser extension
AOL Toolbar - Toolbar
AOL Toolbar Launcher - Browser Helper Object
Research - Browser extension
UberButton Class - Browser Helper Object
Windows Messenger - Browser extension
Yahoo! Services - Browser extension
Yahoo! Toolbar - Toolbar
Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - Browser Helper Object
Also, in the "have been used" should I worry about disabling the ones that
are still showing enabled. Here is a list of the ones that show enabled.
There are
Active Scan Installer Class - Panda Software
Malicious Software Removal Tool - Microsoft
MSNMEssengerSetupDownloadControl Class - Microsoft
MUWebControl Class - Microsoft
NPKCX Control - INCA Internet Co. Ltd.
Npx2 Control - INCA Internet Co. Ltd.
OcxChart Control - edaily
Office Update Installation Engine - Microsoft
OWSBrowserUI Class - Microsoft
OWSClientMiscApis Class - Microsoft
Performance Viewer ActiveX Control - 3am Labs, Inc.
SearchAssistantOC - Microsoft
Shockwave Flash Object - Macromedia, Inc.
Spybot-SD Internet Explorer protection - Safer Networking
TLIEFlashObj Class (not verified)
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool - Microsoft
WUWebControl Class - Microsoft
XecureWeb 4.0 Client Control - SoftForum Co., Ltd.
YInstStarter Class - Yahoo! Inc.
Again, sorry about the length but any comments or advice is appreciated.
TIA,
Tom
