Has there been any reports of any problems with Moviemaker 2.1 after
installing IE 7 Explorer? Thanks

yes, quite a few.... we don't know why yet, but reverting back to IE6 is
needed to resolve it.

but it only happens to some users

I had problems with MOVIE MAKER. I found that it was IE EXPLORER 7 doing it.
Uninstall it and MOVIE MAKER with work.
Thanks
Tom

I'm having problems with my captured video playing back choppy. Was this the
problem you were having? I'm capturing it in format to play back on my
computer.

the posts I've seen are mostly about Movie Maker crashing.... so your issue
may not be related.

choppy playback is often hard-drive related... speed and condition.... try a
test caputure with the WinDV utility which will report dropped frames during
capture... there's a link to it on my Setup Movie Maker in XP > Other
Software page.

Thank you PapaJohn for your reply. I am saving to a seperate hard drive with
nothing on it except video files. Would IE7 on my main drive still cause a
problem? I shut down all programs when capturing and don't use the computer
for anything. My norton is controlled from a server, not on the client. The
other thing I noticed when capturing is in the preview, the first 20 seconds
capture in perfect time very smootly, ie the clock is tiking away at 1 second
intervals. However the timer starts to slow down and the picture seems
choppy, to the point where when the 2 hour tape is done capturing, the timer
is only at 27 minutes. Does this tell you anything about my choppy output?
Thanks again for your help.

what tells me a lot is your tape being 2 hours... which means you're
probably capturing from an analog source as DV tapes at normal speed only
hold an hour of video

Movie Maker doesn't work well with analog capture devices... if you're using
a digital camcorder as a 'pass-thru' device with a firewire connection,
that's OK, but if you're using some other setup???

How about some info about your setup device(s) and how you're capturing the
video.

I wouldn't expect IE7 issues to be different using the main drive or another
one for video work.

Thanks again for replying. I am capturing VHS tapes and eventaully 8MM tapes
playing them through a hollywood bridge with firewire on either a VCR or 8MM
camcorder. All I am trying to do is preserve my videos in case the tapes
deteriorate over time. I'm not tryinh to doing anything fancy. I had been
using dazzle with TMGenc to create DVD's but read where DVD's won't last
forever. My hard drive became corrupted and when I wiped it clean, I didn't
have all the programs I needed to continue with dazzle which is why I tried
MM. I bought an external 250 gig drive and hoped to capture with MM and
watch them back on computer in my later years, assuming the tapes crapped out.
Thanks again.

If your main goal is to make DVD copies
of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.

analog capture using Movie Maker is a hit or miss thing, mostly misses...
and in Vista, Movie Maker suggests you don't even try, referring you to the
software that came with your capture device.

the 'pass-thru' process in XP or Vista works well... if you can use a
digital camcorder that supports the feature.

Yep, I think this too, but I like IE7 and the IE7 installation corrected
several my other problems... so, actually, is there no other solution?

I don't know that uninstalling IE7 would be
your fix...it was just a suggestion. More
than likely there is another fix...but I have
no idea what it may be.
