I posted this in error on the IEAK 6 forum. This is about IE 7 but I cannot
find a specific forum in which to direct my query.

I recently upgraded to IE 7. As a general rule it is working fine but for one
irritating little glitch.

It will not allow me to change my desktop icons from the traditional IE
'e' with my personal desktop icons.

I have gone through the Right Click, Change Icon, and browsed to my icons,
selected the icon then applied it and OK's out. But, the 'e' icon dominates
and will not allow the change to take place.

Any suggestions from the forum on a remedy?

Hi Dick,

I don't know if this workaround applies to desktop icons but it definately
works for Favorites links icons.

After you have chosen your personal icon, go to the General tab on the
Properties dialog and check "read-only", save your changes.

Regards.

Bummer. I got the message that it could not apply changes to the icon.

Do you havwe any other suggestions?

Don't they know the answer over in the microsoft.discussion/community groups
setup for IE7?

Hi Dick,

I see. I tried myself even on an Administrator account. Rather than placing
the link on your desktop you could place it on your Quick Launch bar or
Links toolbar (you can change the icon when the link is placed on those bars
np.)

Regards.
