I just installed IE 7 Beta 2 and now my Windows Defender Beta 2 Home page
tells me that it has not been updated for 14 days. But when i click on update
it tells me that definitions and engine it is right up to date with upgrades.
How do i get rid of this message?

Thanks Bill, I worked through all those items but did not help. Still have
the same notice. "Windows Defender definitions have not been updated for 14
days"

When you went to Windows Update and applied all offered updates after an
express scan, you were not offered any Windows Defender definitions? I'd
retry that step, I think.

even witht he updates it still says "windows defender definitions havent
been updated in 14days"

bro do this
To do this, click Start, click Run, type Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

then open windows defender and click update
there itz updated
which sucks untill ms fix this error u will have to do this
each time a new update comes out

That step is part of the troubleshooting KB article. It is in a linked
article.

Am I correct in assuming from your other reply in this thread, that you've
got this going? You will not necessarily need that step each time updates
are released. For example. this last update went in find (via
MicrosoftUpdate) on my home machine which has failed to update the two
previous times.

yes i see that but it appears he was missing it so i just pointed it out
and still it dont work for him lol

Hi Bill i decided to uninstall Defender then re-installed it. It updated fine
and all is well. Thank for taking the time to help.

That is the problem with posting responses on this issue--there's no magic
bullet. Some "remedies" have more side effects, or are risker than
others--the Windows Installer cleanup tool, for example, so it doesn't do to
just put it all out there at the start.

Terrific--I suspect that step ought to be in there somewhere--as well as the
somewhat simpler update install--control panel, add or remove programs,
Windows Defender, change, update.
