IE7 Beta locks up Internet communications or sometimes doesn't load at all.
"System Restore" will not restore IE 6. What to do?

have you tried uninstalling in the normal manner through Control
Panel-Add/Remove Programs like the Readme tells you to?

Go to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs
Make sure Show Updates is checked.
Scroll down near the bottom and find IE7 and remove it. It will restore IE6.

If it isn't there go to Start | Run and type the proper one of these
commands:

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2, build
5346.5)

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2 Preview)

If it still doesn't work go to Start | Run and type
regedit
and press <Enter>
Navigate to the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Click on Internet Explorer.
Right click in the right pane and select New String Value .
Name that value
InstalledByUser
Right click the new value and choose Modify and give it your User Account
name
Now try to Uninstall IE7 via Add or Remove Programs.

Some software (for example CCleaner) deletes uninstaller directories such as
$NtUninstallie7bet2$ (or $NtUninstallie7bet2p$, for IE& Beta2 Preview).
If the $NtUninstallie7bet2$ folder is empty, or has been deleted completely,
whether by third party software or manually to preserve disk space, you will
not be able to remove the Beta 2 Preview via Add/Remove Programs or the
commandline. If running System Restore does not resolve the situation for
you, then your only choice is to stay with the Preview, or format your PC
and install Windows anew. You will not be able to install any future builds
of IE7 while Beta 2 Preview is installed, nor will you be able to run a
Repair Install of XP

I couldn't find the item in the Windows update listing and since MS doesn't
make easy for the user to do a rollback to IE 6, I restored the enitre C
drive from the Acronis backup I took a couple of days ago. Thanks for you
help.

Thanks for your solution. It's a bit beyond my technical range, so I
restored from a backup taken a couple of days ago. Problem is fixed. Thanks
for your help.

If that's beyond your technical abilities you shouldn't be loading beta
software.
